I always loved Snape because he was always so misunderstood and had such a sad past

Snape has been my favorite ever since I read Deathly Hallows. I hated him before that. Like, I couldn't stand him at all. I thought he was evil and just... Bleh. But then he died, and I was like "YAY!" and then I read the memory chapter and it made me cry and I felt horrible for hating him. And now he's my favorite.

I don't have an absolute favorite character, but I do love Neville. He's a bit of a scaredy-cat in the first couple of books, but what he did in the first book was awesome. He stood up to his frinds when they were going to leave the common room at night. The he stood up to Death Eaters in the fifth and sixth books, and he stood up to Voldemort in the seventh book.

There's so many! I think my absolute favorite is Snape because he's such a well-developed character and there are so many levels to him and he's able to balance them all out so well.

I know! That's one of the reasons I love him.
But you know who else is a well-developed character?? Voldemort.

Yes, he really is. So are Neville and Ginny.

Ginny? How is Ginny a well-developed character?

She starts out as a weak little fangirl, and by the last book, she's a strong, independent girl who can take care of herself. Albeit still in love with Harry.

I don't feel Ginny is well developed. I do love the twins tho. Adorable.

I have to agree. That progression from the weak fangirl to some strong, independent, hot chick was not there. She was one, and then she was the other. And then suddenly she was the love of Harry's life.

Exactly! I feel she's better developed in the books than in the movies, but I still feel like there was no progression; it was just, "BAM" here's Ginny, actin' like her mama!

I've always liked Snape. Well, I wasn't so sure about him when I first read book 1 (I was young), but after I finshed that book, I was one his side through it all. It helps that I was never a huge Harry fan - well, I think little boy Harry is sweet, but then he turned a bit arrogant and moody. Anyway, I didn't take Harry's thoughts about Snape into account. His perception has always been off to me; Harry is far too black and white, gryffindors good, slytherins bad idea.
Ginny? No, she wasn't well-developed. Sure, she changed into a strong adult (at least magically, physically strong), but virtually no transition. She was a minor character up until book 6, then she was there and then she was gone again in book 7. Also, she never came across as independent. I know Hermione told her to date other guys to "move on" from Harry, but to me, it was played at making her seemingly needy on a guy. She couldn't get Harry, so she just dated around to other guys. It wasn't that I minded her dating other guys, but it came across wrong.

I agree. I like Harry, but he was extremely arrogant and moody. Everything was this-or-that, no middle ground. And I agree with your points on Ginny. She was only really in books 2 and 6.

I'm not a huge Harry fan. I know his life is depressing but his overall personality doesn't help that much. He gets all angsty and brooding, especially in the later books. But its pretty hard to get the character of a hero right. Mostly they do end up being somewhat black-and-white. That's why I liked Percy Jackson so much. That guy had personality! And a very nice mildly sarcastic sense of humor that always eased the tension and made the books fun to read.
