Yeah, I like both of those pairings as well.

Drarry is also a favorite. I'm not really a hard core shipper for it, but I do like it a lot.

I do. A lot of my ships are slash.

I ship some slash, but not in Harry Potter.

Harry potter has the best slash couples in my opinion. You know one couple I never really liked? Remus and Tonks. I just couldn't see how they fit as a couple.

I like Harry/Draco - rather I LOVE the dynamics between them, more so than I can actually say I ship them romantically. But they have cool parallels and they are also opposites, so any relationship between them is interesting. Actually, that's at least one complaint I have about book 7: Rowling never allowed them to have anything more than fighting. Blah.

She said that they never became friends, but their rivalry was finally settled.

So neutral. That's ever more boring than enemies.

I agree. I think if she'd developed Draco's character more, she could used that to also develop his relationship with Harry. I'm not big on slash, but I agree that the dynamics of their relationship would be interesting. I wouldn't have minded reading something where they become something other than just rivals.

I don't see Rowling's books ever going into actual slash (heck, fans exploded when Rowling said Dumbledore was gay.) Plus, she had obviously set up Harry/Ginny from the start.
Having Draco and Harry become allies, however, would have made a lot of fans very happy. Plus, give a good base for fanfiction if some readers wanted to look further into their relationship. Of course, they already do, but many of the stories stray far away from canon and usually strikes me as being OOC.

Well like I said, I wouldn't want her to write them as having a romantic relationship. But yeah, I guess becoming allies is more what I'm getting at. I understand what you're saying about fanfiction becoming OOC; it's hard to come across authors who can successfully show a transition from Draco and Harry being rivals, to allies. Most people tend to make it OOC as soon as they're writing about a situation that's otherwise difficult to explain or write about. It happens a lot with Dramione fics...

Draco/Hermione is worse about the OOC issue. It seems like 95% of the fics are something like:
Draco and Hermione fight.
Oooooh. They realize each other are "hot."
*smooch*
Draco turns good.
-_-
Quite depressing, because I think Draco/Hermione is interesting too. Good dynamics, but I've mostly given up reading those fics because the stories are unrealistic.
To have a successful relationship between two people who were previously enemies, I think the story best flows if first the people become allies, then friends, and then more. The opposite (jumping into a romance first) and then expecting the person to change - or having them change straight away is... not realistic. Many beginning writers struggle with having patience.

It really is upsetting when people don't write well enough to develop the characters in the way that they deserve. I personally think that we saw more of Draco develop in the movies than in the books, especially in HBP. That scene where he is crying in the bathroom, and then where he faces off against Dumbledore. Those specific scenes are what made me really love him, because we got to see more of the vulnerability. Like he was just a scared teenage boy who was trying to do what he had to to stay alive and protect those that he cared about (namely, his mother). I think the dynamics between Harry and Draco are always interesting to look at in a new light, but I've never really shipped them romantically. I'm not averse to slash, I just don't look for it above anything else. I don't know. *shrugs* Dramione is one of my favorite pairings, coming in second to Snape/Hermione. I think that Hermione needs someone who can keep up with her mentally and academically, and someone who will challenge her. Someone like Draco or Snape. I don't really dislike Ron as much as I used to, but I still can't stand him with Hermione. He doesn't fit. The relationship is just... Not right. She's not the kind of girl to go off and be a housewife. She's independent and Ron just... No. I have quite a few good Dramione fics that I've saved the links to if anyone wants them.

Draco's character development in HBP - book and film - was really good. But then in DH, he just... faded off. Oh, there were still moments were we felt sorry for him, but his character didn't go anywhere. A lot of that is because he didn't get much page or screen time - thus having any dramatic change in him would be completely out of character. That's why I wish Harry had joined with Draco sometime mid -DH. Both because I think Draco's character needed it, and also, Slytherin needed its moment as well. Harry and the readers needed to acknowledge that sometimes other approaches other than the Gryffindor approach is needed. There was no balance in the books. I would love to read some good Dramione fics.
