Potions Class is a practical class, meaning simply all of it is hands-on, consisting of you making simple potions.
The lessons are divided up into 10 potion assignments. Points will be awarded each time you complete a potion. If you want pass the class (in other words move up to Second Year Potions next semester), you must pass 8 out of those 10 assignments.
How to Make Potions:
Each assignment thread will give directions on how to make that particular potion. Here are a few things to note:
- You must buy the ingredients on the list before making the potion. If you mess up on the potion, you are allowed to start over, but you must also re-buy any ingredients you have ruined.
- To "make" the potions, you will be posting in that thread, following the steps your professor has provided. (If the directions say the first thing to do is squish up beetle eyes, that is what you will post about first),
- Most potions require that you post TWO to THREE times. Follow the directions. Wait the correct amount of time and come back to tend to your potion. Forgetting about your potion will cause it to go bad and will result in a failing grade. The more accurate you are, the higher your grade will be.
- Follow the directions, but post things in your own words. Not every word has to be original, but don't simply copy and paste (yes, I will be able to tell). There's two main ways you can post about your experience in making potions.
One, use * *. As in: "*grabs powered unicorn horn, measures, and dump it into brew*
Or you may use the "I" form. As in: "I grab the powered unicorn hair, measure it, and dump it into brew."
There are other ways of writing that are also acceptable. The writing itself isn't as important as making sure you have each step and that you post on time.
- You can say "hi" to your fellow brewers, but don't loose concentration.
- Most of all, HAVE FUN. Potions is a very precise art but very rewarding.
