Lesson 1
Welcome to Potions, this is a class that requires precise control and caution when mixing ingredients. To those who do not study and refuse to be careful: this is not the class for you.
Now then, some might trivialize potions by claiming it you merely need to know the right recipe, that it is simply a simple formula that if followed correctly gives you the desired result. Those who say this, misunderstand the true beauty of potions. Potions are an entire realm of undiscovered possibilities. Somewhat like cooking. I know, it's a funny comparison, no? But think about it, do you truly think that every possible way of combining food as been discovered? Or that the ways a certain dish is cooked can't be improved upon?
To start we shall try our hands at the following potion, one harmless enough that those who fail shouldn't hurt themselves... too much.
Snuffling Potion

Potion information:
To smell its fumes is enough to make one sniff. Good for clearing sinuses. If drunk, the potion will cause uncontrollable sniffling, along with sneezing and eyes watering.
Characteristics: Clear smoke
Ingredients: You must buy ingredients before posting, no borrowing from my supply cupboard.
Sneezeweed Seeds
Lilac flowers
Thyme
2 Fluxweed scruples
5 grams Octopus Powder
Unscented mineral oil
Instructions: (Requires two main steps/postings, aka post twice)
1. Heat 500 ml of water in caldron and bring to a boil. Chop 2 lilac flowers and add to brew. Stir clockwise 3 times.
Measure out 2 grams of sneezeweed seeds on scale and then crush seeds into a fine power with mortar and pestle. Add to brew and stir counterclockwise 3 times.
Crush the fluxweed scruples lightly and add to brew. Sir clockwise once.
Measure 5 grams Octopus Power. Add to brew. Stir in figure 8's 5 times.
Reduce heat until potion is simmering.
Wait 24 hours. The closer you are to exactly 24 hours, the best results you will get from the potion after the next step.
2. After 24 hours, add 250 ml of unscented mineral oil. (Hint: do not lean over cauldron unless you want to get the sniffles from breathing the smoke).
Add a pinch of ground thyme.
Bottle sample and give to me for your grade.
I will be grading your potions out of 5 points. I will basing your grade on the quality of the potion as well as how you make it.
Note: Double posting IS ALLOWED in the event you have waited the appropriate amount of time and no one has posted above you. Unless I specifically state that Double posting is allowed, you are to assume that it is not as per the rules of the The Third Floor Corridor.
