Who watches Once Upon a Time? What are your favorite characters? Favorite ships? What do you think of the current season so far?

My favorite characters are probably Hook, Regina, Gold, and Henry. The first three because they prove that nobody is inherently or irredeemably evil, and Henry because he's so freakin' cute and sweet. I love Captain Swan, and I'm also kind of on board with Swan Queen, but I don't really ship many things in the show. This season is so great. I haven't watched the new episode yet, but I'll probably do that when I get home.

I like Emma and Hook. Together, but I mean I like them as individual characters too.
I used to love Rumple - was the only character I really liked in season 1, but somewhere along the line his flip-flopping from hero to villain grated my nerves. I like season 1 and 2 anti-hero Rumple. Felt more consistent.
I ship Captain Swan, but I've lost some interest in them as a couple. Mostly, I didn't care for season 5a (Dark Swan). It had a lot of potential to be interesting, but then it all got rushed. Dark Hook twist didn't resonate with me. We got to go through Emma's struggle of hearing the voices, but Hook? Poof dark. Poof dark in Storybrook after he had been fine for days. Also, the whole "darkness" thing irritated me. I didn't like that Emma went "dark" because she wanted to save someone's life... and why did Hook become the dark one before he ever did anything "dark" as the "dark one" (he took on Merlin's powers). I also disliked Emma's hair. >_<
My favorite seasons were Neverland and Frozen.
The underworld looks promising though.

I understand what you mean about the "dark Hook"thing, and Rumple's flip flopping.
The Neverland season was soooooooo good. I loved Peter Pan. He's another of my favorites.

I love Peter Pan too! One of the twists I really like on OUAT was making him a villain. From an adult perspective, even in the original source, he was a bad boy (for lack of a better word... he wasn't ever "heroic.") I like evil Pan though, with just a hint of that carefree charm coming through.
I actually like so many of the villains on the show. The snow queen, Maleficent, Cruella, Ursula. Zelena was interesting for a time, but now she's my least favorite character. Arthur was okay, but I'm disappointed that his story was never wrapped up. Who is your favorite villain? Least favorite? (Outside of the main characters like Regina or Rumple).

I really like Cruella and Cora. The way they were characterized was just so wonderful. If I had to choose my least favorite villain, it would probably have to be the two people who were working for Pan, mainly the woman wh "wooed" Neal.

Oh yeah. Cora. How could I forget Cora? She was a great villain. I also found her painful to watch, because her abuse of Regina was real-world relatable. Cora wasn't dangerous because of otherworldly magic but uses other weapons like manipulation. That makes her scary though.
Tamara and Owen. LOL. I would barely call them villains.... they are lackeys. I think the show was going for wanting some "normal" people who were villains (normal meaning from our world without magic), but they didn't give them anything else to make them formidable. They didn't even get a good backstory that would explain their motivation (to the extreme they were wanting - killing hundreds of people, kidnapping a boy....). Weak characters.

Cora was a wonderful villain. The way she manipulated everyone, not just Regina, was great. If there ever was one who belonged in Slytherin, it would be her.

Haha. Yeah, Cora is an example of the darkest Slytherin side (power-hungry and will do anything to anyone to get that power). Rumple is just as Slytherin, he is just after a less obvious form of power and he has layered motivations under that. Still very self-focused motivations which is completely Slytherin.
Most of the OUAT villains are probably Slytherins? Kinda stereotypical that way. Regina is more complex... I think she is Slytherin, but almost like because she had to be. She admires certain Gryffindor/Hufflepuff traits.

I think most villains in general would be sorted into Slytherin, but people like the OUAT villains especially. Regina in the beginning I would say was definitely Slytherin, but now I would say that she is a mix of all the houses, though not a lot of Ravenclaw. More Gryffindor than anything, I think.

In classic stories, it's common to fall into the pattern of villain=slytherin and hero=gryffindor. I find villains that aren't Slytherins to be super interesting - their motives are often very different. Does OUAT have any non-slytherin villains? I would say the Author might be a Ravenclaw - for a long time at least he seemed like he wanted a good story for the sake of a good story, but then he went all crazy for fame which makes me think he was after his own ambitions, so Slytherin. What about the Snow Queen? I could see her as a Hufflepuff gone dark, like she lost her sisters and her sense of loyalty and fairness got fractured and confused. Still there, just twisted.
With Regina, I think she admires Gryffindor traits the most, probably because of the hero aspect. I think she also admire Hufflepuff loyalty and kindness, but with loyalty, it might be her own Slytherin's I look after my family sort of deal. She's still mostly Slytherin. She started being a hero in part for her own happy ending. She also will do anything to achieve her goals - even good goals, she'll justify the means. Like stealing Belle's heart to keep Rumple away.

Yeah, I can see the Author being a Ravenclaw. I myself identify more with Ravenclaw than any other house, though I'm in Slytherin here. One thing people forget about Ravenclaws is that we don't value intelligence, we value knowledge, and knowledge and intelligence are two completely different things. We are curious, and we like to learn new things, and we like to teach people the things we know, and that is something that comes across in the Author, I think.
I agree on the Snow Queen's part as well. She was never really ambitious. All she wanted was her sisters. It was her loyalty and love that really destroyed her relationship with the one sister, and killed the other. (I think that's what happened) All she wanted was her family to be whole again, nothing more, nothing less, and that really does scream Hufflepuff to me.

I tend to value intelligence. I call it my snobbery side.... I admire intelligence in others and tend to look down upon stupidity. But I definitely hear what you are saying. I get annoyed when Ravenclaw is referred to as the smart house, or when people sort characters into the house merely because of their intelligence. That's not one of Ravenclaw's traits.
Where would you sort other characters? To me, Emma and Charming are Gryffindor. Snow is Hufflepuff. Henry I go back and forth between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff - he seems to admire Gryffindor qualities more.
I can never figure out a house for Hook. He has Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor qualities.

I agree on Emma, Charming, and Snow. Henry I see as more Hufflepuff than Gryffindor simply because he is so hard-working, loyal, and caring, and those are some of Hufflepuff's main characteristics. He would go to the ends of the Earth for the people he cares about.
Hook I think is a mix. His personality doesn't really scream any house to me. He's cunning and ruthless like a Slytherin, he can be caring and loyal like a Hufflepuff, and he's brave and sometimes reckless like a Gryffindor.

I agree about Henry... that makes since. I guess I turned off from Henry being Hufflepuff because in season 1, I found him unkind and disloyal to Regina (did he ever give her the benefit of the doubt before trying to replace her?) He is a hurt kid though, and that changes things.
If Hook is a mix of houses, then it would come down to his choice. Not that that narrows it down too much. Maybe not Slytherin - I think he picked up those traits because he needed them but not because that's who he wants to be, and he's cunning and determined but not necessarily ambitious. I've seen a lot of people say Hufflepuff, but for me, it's betrayed people too many times, and I think it would be really hard for a Hufflepuff to use people like that. Gryffindor... maybe. Not sure.
Kind of cool that characters are more complex than four sortings. XD
